THE SCHMIDTS
In 1927, Harold F. Schmidt established a real estate brokerage in Traverse City, Michigan, laying the foundation for a company built on the principles of honesty, integrity, and an unwavering dedication to exceptional service. Originally named H.F. Schmidt Real Estate, the firm quickly earned a reputation for serving its clients, agents, employees, and the communities it operated within.
Nearly a century and six generations later, the organization, now known as the Schmidt Family of Companies, remains headquartered in Traverse City and has grown to become one of the largest full-service real estate brokerage firms in the nation. The company proudly represents three prestigious real estate franchises—Coldwell Banker, Century 21, and Sotheby’s International Realty. With over 80 offices, more than 1,700 agents, and close to 150 employees, the Schmidt Family of Companies spans western and northern Michigan, northeast Ohio, and both coasts of Florida.
At the heart of the company’s mission is the principle of Servant Leadership, embraced by Ken and Mike Schmidt and their extended team of agents, brokers, and employees. This philosophy empowers the organization to view the world as a landscape of boundless opportunities to create extraordinary value and drive meaningful change by serving others.
THE SCHMIDT COMMUNITY FUND
In 2019, Ken Schmidt and Mike Schmidt – 3rd and 4th generations respectively – founded the non-profit organization Schmidt Community Fund, dedicated to fulfilling our moral responsibility to serve one’s neighbor and community and helping people with their education so they have the skills necessary to realize their potential, laying the foundation for a life full of opportunities.
In keeping with their philosophy of how together, we can do more; the Fund intentionally and only provides matching funding when the requesting party is personally vested in the recipient with his or her personal time and funding.
